Open-pit planning

From the block model to the pit and the bench. Optimise the pit, draw its outlines and design it, then plan each bench against the model.

  • Pit optimisation on the block model
  • Pit outlines and pit design
  • Cutoff, tonnage by bench and the grade-tonnage curve
  • The model on the bench, ore outlines and grade of the holes from the model
  • Blast blocks against the model
  • Volumes between surfaces, ramps at a grade

How it goes

1

Values

Prepare the block model: grades, densities and the value of each cell.

2

Optimise

Find the most valuable pit shell on the block model with the slope limits.

3

Design

Turn the shell into pit outlines and a pit design; draw ramps as lines at a grade.

4

Bench plan

Cut the model at the bench, draw the ore outlines and give the blast holes their grade from the model.

5

Reconcile

Compare the blast blocks and the surveyed volumes with the model.
