Hotkeys and Aliases

Two windows for the shortcuts of commands: the keys you press and the short names you type on the command line.

Hotkeys

Shows every command with the key combination bound to it and lets you change it. Your changes are kept apart from the shipped defaults.

Where to find it

Settings tab → Application group → Hotkeys (Hotkeys). Default hotkey: Ctrl+7.

How to

  1. Click Hotkeys. The list shows all commands, sorted by name in the interface language, with their keys (a dash if none).
  2. To find a command, type part of its name or of its keys in the filter box.
  3. Click Set in the row. The key field reads "press a key…".
  4. Press the new combination, for example Ctrl+7. It is bound at once.
  5. Press Esc instead to cancel without changing anything.
  6. Click Clear to remove the key from the command.
  7. Click Close when done.

Parameters

ElementMeaning
Filter boxNarrows the list to commands whose name or keys contain the text
Reset to defaultsAfter you confirm ("Put every hotkey back to the program's default?" – Reset / Cancel), drops all your changes
SetStarts capturing the next key press for the row
ClearRemoves the key from the row

Good to know

  • One combination serves one command. If the combination was bound to another command, it is taken from it, and the window says so: <keys> was taken from "<command>".
  • Rebinding a command replaces its previous key.
  • While a row is capturing, every key press goes to the capture and nothing else.

Aliases

Aliases are short names typed on the command line. The alias of a command runs it; the alias of a kind of object selects all objects of that kind.

Where to find it

Settings tab → Application group → Aliases (Aliases).

How to

  1. Click Aliases. The Commands tab lists every command, the Objects tab every kind of object.
  2. Click in the alias box of a row and type one or more aliases, separated by commas, semicolons or spaces.
  3. Press Enter or leave the box to take them. Press Esc to put back what was there.
  4. Click Clear in a row to remove all its aliases.
  5. Click Close when done.

Parameters

ElementMeaning
FilterShows rows whose name, id or alias contains the text
Only with aliasesHides rows that have no alias
Commands / Objects tabsAliases of commands / of kinds of object
Reset to defaultsAfter you confirm ("Put every alias back to the program's default?"), restores the default aliases on both tabs

Hover over a command name to see its id. Changes are kept in the user's settings over the shipped defaults.

Rules

  • An alias is one word of letters, digits, _, . or -.
  • One name stands for one thing. If an alias was held by another row of the same tab, it is moved and the window says '<alias>' was taken from '<name>'.
  • A name used on the other tab is refused.

If something goes wrong

The reason appears in red under the box and your text stays there until you fix it or press Esc.

MessageWhat to do
